Nova vacina poderá reverter diabetes
Uma inovadora e experimental vacina contra diabetes que visa células chave do sistema imunológico previne e reverte diabetes no estágio inicial, informaram pesquisadores.
Na revista científica Diabetes o Dr. Nick e colegas escreveram que uma única injeção da vacina atrasou significativamente a diabetes recente em ratos e oito injeções consecutivas reverteram a doença.

New vaccine could reverse diabetes
An innovative and experimental diabetes vaccine aimed key cells of the immune system prevents and reverses diabetes in its early stages, researchers report.
In the journal Diabetes Dr. Nick and colleagues wrote that a single injection of the vaccine significantly delayed in recent diabetes rats and eight consecutive injections reversed the disease.

Similar studies in mice have established that hyperglycemia (high blood sugar in the blood) showed that two injections of the vaccine per week, no more than 25 days, could reverse the hyperglycemia and maintain normal blood sugar levels, even after vaccination be interrupted.
Parts of a protein contained in the vaccine showed that they could effectively reconnect immune cells called dendritic cells to suppress diabetes.
"Certainly [the vaccine] will not 'reverse' disease in a person with diabetes for more than five years," said Dr. Nick Giannoukakis, University of Pittsburg, USA.
Vaccine for "diabetes cure" will be tested, to be checked for safety in volunteers with type 1 diabetes, which will complete the preliminary studies already in progress.
